USER EXPERIENCE GOALS
While designing the graphical user interface for Sisyphean Megastructure, we made design decisions with several clear goals in mind that helped support the vision of the gameplay experience.
The GUI the player interacts with should clearly lay out the commands available to the player and telegraph the distinct states (code, play, fast forward) the level can be in.
Design decisions should support the fantasy of the player working with a large, intricate machine with various turning, ticking, and functioning parts of an interconnected system.
Design iterations were supported by data from consistent playtesting organized throughout development.
ADJUSTMENTS BASED ON USER INSIGHTS
Added tick marks for telegraphing the distance of movement steps
Rotating components move to cover unusable buttons to better convey distinct interface states
DIrectional shapes behind command slots show the order in which they will be played
